The Real Liberal on Thursday, September 21, 2006 11:44:58 PM
I guess it would be good to start by introducing myself -- hello I’m Alex. I am sure one day I might feel comfortable enough to give my full name but for now Alex will have to do.
As I am sure you have discovered by my username, I am a liberal. Not, just someone who throws around the name so as to get support from Move On or one of the other influential liberal websites. No, I am a true green, tree hugging, animal loving, Bush hating, gay marriage supporting, peace not war preaching liberal.
I say all this so as not to be confused with any wannabies that don the title but live a lie. I am not a democrat because I know that too many of them are fake, and that they appease people like me just to get elected and I don’t feel the need to support their agenda. I don’t talk about conservation and alternative fuel while driving my SUV to the airport to jump in my private jet and setoff to give yet another environmental speech like Al Gore. Don’t get me wrong, I think his movie is one of the most important works of the modern age and should be seen by every citizen of the world but I think that if he really wants to make change then he must also live a changed life.
Yet what makes my life the hardest is not the fakers, but instead the fact that I just happen to live the conservative hellhole of Texas. I guess I can find some solace in the fact that I reside in Houston, were I can at least survive as a liberal instead of some small cowpoke town where I might get shot for proclaiming truths such as “Bush Lied & People Died”. I am not sure what makes people afraid of the truth and I can only hope that as humanity becomes more enlightened that the people of the future might live a better life.

I would like that as you read this and future blogs, you will do so with an open mind. I know that for any of you conservative leaning individuals that it might be frightening to look at the world in an unfamiliar way but just as St. Paul of your Christian bible exhorted you to test everything, in the same way I only ask that you would put what I say to the test. If you find me to be wrong then ignore me or better yet, please write me and say so but I have a feeling that if you are willing to combine both your intellect, heart and beautiful inner child as a lens by which to read my words, then you would come away a much happier and better human being. Looking at things from a different perspective and asking “what it” is one of the healthiest things that we can do as people.
For instance, if some breaks into your house, it may be legal to shoot them but wouldn’t it be better to try to understand what brought them to your hose to start with, and maybe just maybe we might find they are a hurting and suffering soul, held back from achieving any real future by policies that tell us, “If you get knocked down then all you got to do is pull yourself up by your bootstraps and get back on your way.” Wouldn’t it be better if someone reached down and helped them up. Is it possible the intruder is a misunderstood victim of society that really had no choice, given his/her situation? If we new the whole story we might just find ourselves inviting them to take what we have as a way of thanking fate that we were not born into their life, where we would be the one committing the crime. And as a side note, is it really a crime to break into someone’s house who, lives on land originally belonging to other people from which it was stolen through lies and bloodshed? Just a thought…
I am sure that most of my future bolgs will revolve around a particular topic or idea but this is a good start for now. So remember be kind and rewind.
